Jaguar - The Elegant Cat at Alley Cat Prices

The Jaguar XJ6 Sedan dating from 1982 to 1986 represents one of the best buys in the Luxury Car Market. These years produced the most reliable Jaguars as well as the classic Jaguar design. As evidence, the newer Jaguars have returned to this design by abandoning the futuristic digital dash and the headlights.

The XJ6 Cars have very little, if any annual changes. They are updated based more on engineering improvements than on planned obsolesce. The first XJ6 was introduced in 1968, utilizing the 4.2 liter twin-overhead cam engine design that had been powering Jaguars ever since 1948. It began a life as a 3.4 liter engine powering XK120 Jaguar which at time was the fastest production car in the world. The design evolved over the years into the 4.2 liter engine with modern updates such as fuel injection.

The first XJ6 Sedan had a shorter wheel base but in 1974 it was lengthened to 113 inches that remains unchanged today. The XJ6 of the mid eighties produces 155 h.p. which gives the two ton car a top speed of 120 mph. The cars have leather seats and beautiful wooden dashboards and trim. The cars exude old world elegance. The ride is very subdued but very precise. The car handles much like a sports car but without the harshness. The cars are quiet and have very well placed controls. The SE Jaguars have traditional style with exceptional engineering.

Today a 1996 Jaguar XJ6 sells for base price of $56,900. Considering the sales and luxury tax and a few common upgrades, the drive home price could easily be over $60,000. However, the 1982 to 1986 Jaguars range between $6,000 to $12,000 depending on condition, miles and options.

The design and performance is very similar to the new Jaguars since they were re-designed with round headlights, and analog dashes of the mid 80's cars. With such a high price for a very similar car, the prices are not expected to fall below the current levels. Many people actually expect the prices to actually increase on the older Jaguars. This is very probable, due to the decreasing availability an increased demand for these mid-eighties models.

Consider a mid-eighties XJ6 Jaguar for your next luxury car. It can be purchased for an "alley cat" price but gives true Jaguar Elegance.
